Amalgamated Life — A Longstanding Legacy of Helping Working People
Amalgamated Life Insurance Company was established in 1943 by the founder and president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, Sidney Hillman. Hillman was a labor leader who devoted his life to not only the labor movement, but to the service of the community as a whole. He understood the needs of working people and sought equitable solutions to the issues confronting them and the nation. Hillman’s efforts to bring respect and dignity to working people left a lasting legacy.
Following in his footsteps, Amalgamated Life has been providing exceptional insurance solutions for working people and their families for over 75 years. For more than 45 years, we have also maintained a consistent A.M. Best “A” Rating (Excellent) – a testament to our strong fiscal condition and excellent claims-paying performance.
Amalgamated Life continually strives to meet the insurance and employee benefit needs of its customers. We do so by understanding their concerns and then providing them with solutions and services that exceed their expectations. Our offerings cover a wide range of needs and are available to plan sponsors, members, employees, and licensed brokers and consultants. They include group solutions: term life, medical stop loss, disability and specialty drug cost management services. Our voluntary benefits include: accident, accidental death and dismemberment, critical illness, dental, disability, hearing, ID protection, legal, voluntary and whole life insurance.

Building upon our distinguished heritage, Amalgamated Life has evolved into the Amalgamated Family of Companies whose affiliates include: Amalgamated Employee Benefits Administrators, third-party administrator, Amalgamated Medical Care Management, a medical management company; Amalgamated Agency, a property and casualty brokerage firm; and AliGraphics, a printing and graphics company. Working together, our affiliated companies provide a full range of services to our clients.
Over the course of the last ten years, we have been steadily expanding our market reach and offerings. Today, we are licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Our nationwide sales team offers an extensive suite of group and voluntary insurance products as well as other valuable risk and health cost containment solutions. We have instituted a new, advanced information technology system company-wide, which has significantly streamlined Amalgamated Life’s administrative processes resulting in outstanding customer service and claims handling.
