It has long been recognized that capturing valuable data and analyzing it can provide insights and opportunities across many areas, from improving the customer experience to increasing insurance coverage. LIMRA recently demonstrated how medical claims data is being leveraged to help market supplemental benefits. LIMRA surveyed insurance carriers and here is what the association learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the Numbers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the LIMRA survey, over 53% of carriers reported using medical claims data in connection with their group supplemental health insurance products. Forty two percent (42%) use this data to notify customers of potential supplemental benefits, while one third of carriers said they used medical claims data to auto-pay benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medical Claims Integration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While over half of those carriers surveyed reported offering medical claims integration in connection with supplemental benefits, almost half did not, however, they indicated they were considering this within the next few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to using medical claims data, twelve of the companies queried reported using or planning to use other data such as disability and absence management data to connect with their supplemental benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
